Soil moisture and its spatial variation of surface layer under Larixprincipis-rupprechtii increased obviously after rainfall of medium intensity or more.From surface to deep soil layers (0~60cm), soil moisture trends decreased gradually under all kinds of vegetation, terrain characteristics, and meteorological situation.There is significant difference between physical properties of soil under different vegetations, and the soil moisture capacity of Betula is higher than othervegetation types. The variation characteristics in soil profiles (0～100cm) indicated ahigher bulk density, lower porosity and moisture capacity in deeper soil layer. The result of soil moisture availability analysis of different vegetation types showed that soil moisture was generally enough for plants in Larixprincipis and shrub vegetation types during growing season, while it was in poor availability in Betula vegetation during some periods and in some soil layers.
