Venture Improvement Project Consulting Tip Series Consulting Tips V: Final Presentation An important point to keep in mind when giving a presentation is that people become catatonic very quickly when someone else is talking. Attention Span by type of presentation: Straight script that is read from a podium approximately 10 minutes Professionally done video approximately 15 minutes Dynamic lecture with visual aids approximately 20 minutes A well-led, small group discussion approximately 35 minutes Role-play/practice with everyone involved approximately 55 minutes At the end of the Venture Improvement project, we expect each member of your group to participate in an oral presentation to the client. This presentation is similar to the type of presentation that a consultant would give to his or her client in the real world. The purpose of this final presentation is to discuss the groups findings with the client. You will also answer any questions that the client may have about the study. I. Objectives of the Final Presentation We evaluate the success of your groups studies on: (1) doing the clients report professionally and (2) your ability to present the results of your work to the client. The final presentation allows your group to do four things: (1) inform the client of your groups overall assessment of his or her particular venture, (2) recommend improvements that will benefit the clients venture, (3) receive credit, individually and as a group for tasks completed, and (4) show that you and your group have done a good job. You should take the time to build a case for your recommendations and explain what has happened during the semester. If you do not, your client is less likely to accept your groups recommendations. Your client wants to know how your group arrived at the conclusions that led to your recommendations. The client also wants to know why you used one methodology over the many others that might also be available. If you
