ADAM * ADAM 1945: it was at the end of World War II. Plans were underway for development of an international organization to be known as the United Nations. As world leaders gathered in San Francisco to develop the format of the peacekeeping body, leaders of non-governmental organizations met to develop the NGO charter of the new UN. Lions leaders were invited to attend the months-long conference and drafted the NGO Charter. In 1945, there were already 4,800 Lions clubs with 218,000 members in 14 countries. * NATALIE Lions Day with the United Nations is an annual event held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City to celebrate the 70 years partnership between the UN and Lions. Approximately 500 Lions, UN diplomats and other key representatives get together to discuss targeted humanitarian challenges on a global scale and celebrate the winners of the International Peace Poster and Essay Contests.
