Chineseauthors’writingisnoexception.Mostpreviousstudieslaystressonthe writtendiscourseproducedbyundergraduateandpostgraduatestudentsbutfew researchersinvestigatetheconnectorusageinscientificjournalpapers.Givenallof that,theauthorcomparestheconnectorsemployedbyChineseauthorswiththose used by English native authors in scientific journal papersinthis study.Twocorporaarebuiltwhichrespectivelyconsistofjournalpaperswrittenin EnglishbyChineseauthorsandEnglishnativeauthorsworkingontopicsinthefield ofgeography.Withthehelpoftheconcordancetool,theauthorexaminestheoverall frequencyandvarietyofconnectorsinthetwocorporawhicharecomparedwitheach othertolookatthesemanticandpositionaldistributionofconnectors.Theauthoralso attachesemphasistotheusageofseveralindividualconnectorsincludingthetop10 high-frequencyconnectorsofeachcorpusandsignificantlyoverusedandunderused connectorsinChineseauthorcorpus.Inordertodrawmeaningfulandcomprehensive conclusions,theauthorintegra
