第一讲：冠词和one，a little／a few， this， that 1 a／an（不定冠词） a用在以辅音字母开头，或以读做辅音的元音字母开头的单词前面, an用在以元音字母（a，e，i，o，u）开头，或以不发音的h字母开头的单词前面： 给下列名词加上a 或 an： island; man; uncle; SOS; university; egg; hat; L－plate(一块“实习驾驶”车牌); hour; European; one-way street; apple; onion; MP(一个国会议员); ‘x’; 2 a／an的用法 1. 用在第一次提到而非特指某人或某物的单数可数名词前面： 如：从前一座山…… 2. 用在代表一类东西的单数可数名词前面： A car must be insured． 汽车必须投保。相当于： All cars／Any car must be insured． 所有汽车／任何汽车都必须投保。 3. 用在某些表示数量的词组中： a lot of；a couple；a great many；a dozen；a great deal of 4. 当half跟在一个整数后面时，a用在half前面： 如：一公斤半 One and half kilo, or , a kilo and a half 但； half a kilo 半公斤 可以说“a＋ half+名词”： a half－holiday; 5. 用在表示价格、速度、比率等的词组中： 5p a kilo 5便士一公斤 One pound a metre一英镑一米 每小时 60公里 sixty kilometres an hour 每天四次 four times a day（这里 a／an=per） 6. 用在Mr／Mrs／Miss+姓氏之前： a Mr Smith一位史密斯先生 a Mrs Smith一位史密斯太太 a Miss Smith一位史密斯小姐 a Mr Smith是指一位姓史密斯的先生，表示这位史密斯先生对于说话的人是陌生的。如果Mr Smith前不加a，则说明说话人认识史密斯先生或知道有这么个人。 3 a／an的省略 a／an不用在以下几种情况下： A 复数名词之前： B 不可数名词之前： C 三餐名称之前，但这些名称前加形容词时除外： We have breakfast at eight． He gave us a good breakfast． 比较以下2句话 I was invited to dinner（at their house， in the ordinary way）． I was invited to a dinner given to welcome the new ambassador． 为了庆祝某事或特意为某人而举行的宴会之前要用冠词 4 a／an和one A a／an和one（形容词） 1? 计算时间、测量距离或重量等时，a／an或one可以用于单数的前面： ￡l=a／one pound一英镑 ￡ 1，000，000＝ a／one million pounds 但： The rent is ￡ 100 a week． 这个句子中week前面的a不能用one代替。在其他类型的陈述句中a／an和one通常不能互换，因为one+名词通常意为 one only／not more than one（只有一个），而a／an则没有这个意思，比较： A shotgun is no good．猎枪不行。（这种武器不合适。） One shotgun is no good．一枝猎枪不行。（我需要两枝或三枝。） 2 one的特殊用法 1. One adj.与 another／others对照连用： One（boy）wanted to read，another／others wanted to watch TV． One day he wanted his lunch early， another day he wanted it late． 2. one可以用在 day／week／month／year／summer／winter之前，以特指某事发生的时间： One night there was a terrible storm． One winter the snow fell early． 3. one day: at some future date One day you’ll be sorry you treated him so badly． 4. a／an和one（代词） one是可以用来代替a／an的相应的代词形式： -Did you get a ticket？
