Unit 8Unit 8 Human and nature  China is one of the 12 countries with richest biodiversity in the world, with the various types of terrestrial ecosystems, the top number of species in the northern countries. It is one of the four major genetic resources centers of origin in the world  我国是世界上生物多样性最丰富的12个国家之一，拥有陆地生态系统的各种类型，物种数量居北半球国家第一，是世界四大遗传资源起源中心之一。 Although in the possession of rich biodiversity resources, China faces big pressure of species protection. According to the Red List of endangered species published in 2003 by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), there are 422 species are threatened with extinction in China, including 81 kinds of mammals, 75 kinds of birds, 46 kinds of fish, 31 kinds of reptiles and 184 kinds of plants.  然而，在占有丰富的生物多样性资源的同时，中国面临的物种保护压力也是相当艰巨的，根据国际自然与自然资源保护联盟2003年公布的《濒危物种红色名录》，我国有422个物种面临灭绝的威胁，其中哺乳动物81种、鸟类75种、鱼类46种、爬行动物31种、植物184 The wild animals and plants facing extinction in our country The wild animals and plants facing extinction in our country The wild animals and plants facing extinction in our country . Biodiversity provides people with rich foods, medicines, fuel and other necessities, as well as a large number of industrial raw materials for human’s survival and development. Biodiversity maintains the ecological balance of nature, provides a good environmental conditions for human survival, and it also has important scientific value. 多种多样的生物是全人类共有的宝贵财富。
