Can you identify where the following World Heritage sites are? Step 2 Brainstorming Tell the students: In the previous period, we’ve learned something about Greek architecture. We’ve learnt that no one had a greater impact on Western civilization than the ancient Greeks. Similarly, the Greek language has also influenced the English language. There are a lot of English words derived from Greek. Can you list some examples? Activity: Pair work The students can refer to the article in the textbook or share what they have already known. Step 3 Vocabulary learning 1. Now read the passage in Part A and find out the answers to the following questions: What words does Greek contribute to the English language? (Words related to science, sport and many everyday words.) Why are there so many scientific words that come from Greek? (Because the Greeks made a huge contribution to the field of science.) 2.
