Unit 11: Shipment 装运 李娜勤奋好学，边实习，边学习国际商务知识。近来她在工作中接触 到了有关装运方面的英语商务信函，虽然借助于一些工具书能够大致读懂，但是仍觉得困惑很多，很想全面知道有关装运方面的知识，也想理解装运方面的专业术语，如于bill of lading，Charter Party， partial shipment，transshipment等。装运是买卖双方执行合同的重要阶段，这一业务环节的函电主要围绕着租船订舱、报关发运以及单据制作等业务。张经理于今天上午在公司办公室给李娜上了一课，讲述了国际商务装运方面的知识，并向她展示了更多的这方面的商务信函。 Background Knowledge In international trade, the exporter has various means of shipment, for instance, by ship, by truck, by train, or by airplane. The choice will be made according to the nature of product, the distance, available means of transportation, time limit as well as freight. The ocean bill of lading is an essential document in making a shipment. It presents three aspects. First, it is a receipt of the goods. Second, it is a contract for the performance of certain services upon certain conditions. Third, it serves also as evidence ownership of the goods described, and when made out ‘to order’, it becomes in practice a negotiable instrument, used as security for loans and other purposes. When drawn in this way, it is known as an order bill of lading. The straight bill of lading, on the other hand, is made out to a specific consignee.
