* The College and career ready anchor standards are broken into categories. In the case of the CCR anchor standards for writing, there are 4 categories (plus 1 NYS added) – text types and purposes, production and distribution of writing, research to build and present knowledge, range of writing, and response to literature (NYS addition)/ Within each category there are several standards, numbered 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10 and 11. * * Each CCR standard is broken down into grade specific expectations. You can trace Writing CCR standard #1 horizontally across this grade band kindergarten to grade 2. * * * * * * * * * * * Pg 18 in common core standards Print this out for participants Kindergarten- at this level, the students will be getting help from the teacher. They are simply identifying the characters and setting. They are simply naming the events. This is a very low recall level skill. Grade 1- now that the characters, setting, and events have been named, the students are describing them. Still mostly recall, but obviously a higher level of recall than simply stating them. Grade 2- In being asked to describe a character’s response, we are getting into more evaluation, wherein the students need to make inferences. How did they respond is a higher level of questioning. Grade 3- Now the students need to not only name and describe the characters, they also need to place events in plot diagram and determine how their actions caused this sequence. This is a much higher sequence of skills. Grade 4- now the descriptions are requiring textual support. The student will have to use their close reading skills to determine which details fit best. Grade 5- Students have to have in depth knowledge of two characters, and after knowing them in detail need to make relevant points of comparison using the text to back it up. * * The CCR Anchor standards remain the same for each group, but the grade specific standards differ * Pg 18 in common core standards Print this out for participa
