The Eyberg Child Behavior Inventory, or ECBI for short, was specifically developed for PCIT by Dr. Sheila Eyberg. It was designed to assess behaviors associated with childhood disruptive behavior disorders such as noncompliance, defiance, and aggression. The ECBI is completed by parents or other caregivers and is appropriate for children aged 2-16 years. The ECBI is relatively brief; it has 36 items and takes about 10 to 20 minutes to administer and hand score. Once scored, the ECBI provides two scales, an Intensity Scale and a Problem Scale. The Intensity scale measures the frequency of child behavior problems, while the Problem Scale provides an assessment of the degree to which the parent finds the behavior to be a problem for them. The ECBI was developed specifically for PCIT assessments and is administered before, during, and after treatment to help assess client progress. * The CBCL is one of the most commonly used standardized parent-report measures of a child’s adaptive and maladaptive behavior. There are different forms of the CBCL depending on the age of the child you are assessing. There is one form for preschool aged children (1 ? to 5 yrs) and one form for school-aged children (6 to 18 years). This measure contains approximately 100 items and takes approximately 20-25 minutes to complete. * The Parenting Stress Index, or PSI, is a standardized assessment that helps therapists identify the severity and type of distress the parent is experiencing in their role as a parent and their relationship with their child, who can be anywhere from 1 month to 12 years of age. The PSI is a 36-item measure that forms three main scales: the Parental Distress, Parent-child Dysfunctional Relationship, and Difficult Child scales. Added together, these scales yield a Total Stress scale. The Parental Distress scale determines the amount of stress the parent is experiencing, both in their role as a parent and in life.
