ABSTRACTDuetotherapiddevelopingofall-opticaltransmissionnetworks(AON),varioushigh-performanceandcost-effectiveopticaldevicesaredemanded.Owingtotheirsmallsize,powerconsumption,cost-effectivenessandgoodstability,theintegratedopticsdevicesplayaveryimportantroleintheAON.Polarizationrotatoristhekeycomponentforthe100Gbits/sMultiplexingQuadraturePhaseShiftKeyingsystem.Itcouldalsobeusedtorealizearbitrarypolarizationanglerotationtotheinputlight.BasedontheIII-Vcompoundsemiconductor,thepolarizationrotatorespeciallyhastheadvantageofdirectintegrationwithopticallaserandmodulator.Onlythesimplestructureliketheonedimensionplanaropticalwaveguidecouldbecalculatedbyanalyticalmethod.Manycommonstructuresliketherectanglewaveguideandtheribwaveguidecouldonlybecalculatedusingthenumericalmethods.So,excellent-performanceandhigh-efficientnumericalsimulationalgorithmisrequired.ThedissertationproposesanewalgorithmformthatisusedtocontrolthenumericaldispersionintheFullVectorBeamPropagationMethod(FV-BPM)Simulationinthecaseoflargerefractiveindexcontrastwaveguidelikethepolarizationrotator,andrationalityofthealgorithmisalsogiven.Onlytwogradientindexlayersneededinthesimulation,thedispersioncanbewellcontrolled.Thealgorithmhasgoodflexibility,andlittledisturbanceisdonetotheexactmodeofthewaveguide,sotheaccuracyofthealgorithmhasalsobeenguaranteed.Next,thehigh-efficiencymodesolver,imaginary-distancepropagationmethodisintroduced,andanewtransparentboundaryconditionfortherealnumbermodesolverisderived.Itonlytakelessthan100μmlengthtogetconvergentandstablemodepatternandrefractiveindexwhenthemodesolverandthenewboundaryconditionareusedtocalculatetheribwaveguide.Vectorcorrectiontothescalarwaveequationisdemonstratedindetailwiththeauthorsindependenteffort,theresultedaccuratevectorcoupledmodeequationbringinenergycouplingbetweendifferentpolarizedcomponents.ComparedwiththeBPM,thevectorcoupledmodetheoryneedonlyaboutone-twelfthofthesimulationtimetogetthecouplinglengthandperiodofthepolarizationrotator,savingalotoftimeindesign
