This article is designed to introduce some common sense of our earth and call on people to protect the earth. It is showed as a poster. It uses pictures and repeating sentence structures to make the article easy to understand.

The students in Junior One are able to understand the current situation of pollution. They know a lot about how to protect the earth. But they are poor at English, esp, sentence structures. They have difficulty in understanding or describing in English.

Pre-reading
Show 3 pictures. Ask Ss to look and discuss in groups: “What can you see in the picture?”, “What things are there on Earth?” Set an example for Ss “There are/is...”
Ss present their answers in class and T ask more questions like “Is/Are there...?”
While-reading
Ss are required to read the first four paragraphs on P31. Summarize the main ideas and finish an exercise item.
Show the 4th picture to Ss. Ask Ss to describe what is in it. Encourage Ss to use “There be”.
Read Para5 together and lead Ss to list the problems we have. Then think about a solution.
Post-reading
What’s special about this article?
--It’s a poster. (With pictures, repeating sentence structures/simple sentence structures to present “why”, calling on sth.)
Complete a poster in groups. And present.
