While the OFDM data is transmitted as one symbol, so in order to reduce the effect of inter-symbol interference(ISI), the correct start of symbol should be got from the received signals to. And the high spectral efficiency and the robust transmission of OFDM system are based on the orthogonal properties of the subcarriers, so if frequency offset is generated, the orthogonal properties of subcarriers will be lost and that will cause inter-channel interference(ICI). The ISI and ICI resulting from synchronizational offset may lead to the deterioration of the bit error rate(BER) performance of OFDM system or even communication failure. Therefore, the performance of synchronization exerts a direct influence on data transmission in OFDM system. In this paper, the algorithm and hardware design of synchronization in burst OFDM system are studied and the scheme of them are given. First, the basic principle of OFDM system is introduced in detail, and the effect of frequency offset, timing offset and sampling offset on OFDM system are discussed through a detailed theoretical analysis and simulation. Then the algorithms of frame detection, symbol timing synchronization and the estimation and correction of frequency offset are analysed, and an algorithmic scheme of the whole synchronization in time domain based on the training series’s delayed auto-correlation is proposed. The BER performance is proved to satisfy the require of communication system after simulation and verification. Compared to other synchronization scheme it needs much less arithmetic. At last, the hardware design and optimization of the synchronization scheme proposed above are given, and the hardware cost is reduced apparently by multiplexing of some submodules, recurrence
