ABSTRACT Global economic integration and rapid urbanization has led to the rapid development of urban construction， the connotation，features and characteristics of the cities are ignored， which greatly reduce HYPERLINK /dict_result.aspx?searchword=%e5%8f%af%e8%af%86%e5%88%ab%e6%80%a7amp;tjType=sentenceamp;styleamp;t=identifiability d the identifiability of the city. As a result， many cities in China have been caught up in urban feature crisis. It is difficult to obtain long-term development for a city with no features and characteristic. Shaping the urban style features is a core content of the comprehensive urban design. As a physical space environment control and coordination， the comprehensive urban design is a powerful and effective means to strengthen and construct the urban feature. Firstly ， this paper studies the background ， content and function of the comprehensive urban design， then analyzes its value orientation in-depth research， proposing that comprehensive urban design is not only a reasonable allocation of space resources，but also meaningful for the protection of urban culture，the shaping of urban image， and the realization of public willingness，all mentioned above are closely related to the citys features and characteristics. Then this paper studies on the urban features and characteristics， analyzes the meaning and composition of the urban feature， putting forward that the urban feature is the reflection of the urban character. The dominant carrier component of the urban feature is architectural form， landscape elements， building height and street furniture aspects. Based on the theoretical research of the above three chapters， this paper construct the comprehensive urban design framework for strengthening and shaping the feature and characteristic of a city in the fourth chapter.
