Abstract
English writing is one of the most important symbols to measure one‘s English overall proficiency, and the students can improve the ability of using language by writing. However, it is a weak part for them in their daily English learning nowadays. There are some problems in their writing productions: for example, the lack of vocabulary, thinking in Chinese, poor grammatical knowledge, and dull sentence structures. Besides, they are very anxious while writing. All of these factors lead to the students‘ weak writing ability.
In order to solve these problems, this paper attempts to discuss the effectiveness of recitation to English writing on the basis of the foreign language acquisition theory. Lots of English learners in China learn English in Chinese surroundings, and they learn and practice English just in class, so it‘s hard for them to write in English in their daily life. Recitation is particularly important under these surroundings. The traditional recitation method can reduce the anxiety in the process of writing; help the students to develop the sense of language; develop the good habit of thinking in English and reduce the impact of Chinese negative transfer on English Writing. In short, the students can accumulate rich and idiomatic English expressions through continuous analysis, understanding, memory and imitation, thus contribute to the improvement of the students‘ writing ability gradually.
The students in the two classes of Senior One in Dongzhen Senior Middle School were chosen as participants, one as experimental class (EC) and the other as control class (CC).
