Co llege of L ife and Environm en tal S cien ce, H arbin N orm al U n ivers ity, H arb in 150080, C h ina Abstract: T his paper dealt w ith the contents of the heavy m etals in sed mi ent o f T iebutie Poo,l and the m ethod o f potential eco log ical r isk index presented by L ars H akanson w as u sed to assess the eco log ical hazard o f the heavy m etals. The result show s that the contents of H g, A s, Cd and Cu appear as g radually degressive from southeast to northw est, wh ile those of Zn, C r, N i, Pb appear no apparent rule. T he eco log ica l r isk assessm ent of the heavy m eta l revea ls that except Cd, wh ich belongs to extrem e potential ecological hazard, m ost heavy m etals belong to ligh t po tentia l eco log ica l hazard.
