Abs tract: The sequential smi ilarity detection algorithm ( SS A) is applied to mi agematching because the calcula-t
ing work is considerableby using the algorithm of common templatematching. But the SS A stillneeds to compute
the sum of errors of the corresponding pixels between two mi ages, so the SS A is sensitive to distortion of charac-
ters. In this paper, the SS A algorithm is mi proved in order to reduce the distortion in the follow ing fields: character
skewness correction, character binarization and character normalization.
