Genet ic variat ion between generations Wang hunming and Zhai Huqu ( Key Lab of rop Germplasm Breeding Ministry of Agriculture, , Nanjing Agric Univ, Nanjing 210095) ABSTRACTSixty-four families in F generation and 128 in F were studied from progenies of hybrids with 5 6 two pure breeding varieties of N icotiana tobaccum , K 326 andG 140. T he experimental design to estimate ge- netic variances via the natural selfing was extended to advanced generations so that enough equations were available for analysis of covariances between the 2 generations The genetic variances were estimated and. tested by iteration. T he results showed that the heritabilities of the 4 traits were basically low and the addi- tive effect was the main genetic component for all the traits except for PH ( the plant height at the 5th week 5 after transplanting) .
