Abstract
The mastery of vocabulary is crucial for the whole process of learning English. As for the senior high school students, enlarging the vocabulary size is an important way to improve their English ability. But how to improve the students’ accuracy and naturalness in vocabulary brings a greater task for English teachers and researchers. Many researchers have great interest in the input means of L2 vocabulary acquisition, and at the same time they focus their attention on the relation between word learning and reading. Many of them support the point that incidental learning should be the major method during the vocabulary learning.
The study tends to explore the application of incidental vocabulary acquisition in collocation teaching in senior high. This thesis tends to find the answers the two main research questions:
What are the factors that influence the students’ collocation?
To what extent does incidental vocabulary acquisition improve the students’ collocation?
This study selects one hundred senior high students from two classes (each class 50 ) in Ningcheng Mongolia Middle School, whose English proficiency has no significant difference. First is the students’ collocation test before training. Second, the implementation of incidental vocabulary acquisition is carried out. And last is the students’ collocation test after training.
After the data is analyzed through SPSS, some findings could be summarized.

The main factors that influence students’ collocation are native language interference, overgeneralization collocation, misselection, ignorance of collocational restriction and incomplete comprehension of word meaning. During the training, enough reading materials are offered for students to acquire the vocabularies and their collocation. These reading materials are not only increase the frequency that students meet the target words and their collocations but also offer the students enough situations to understand the target words
