PAGE PAGE 4 Abstract Background: Percutaneous vertebroplasty with polymethylmethacrylate bone cement in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebra compression fractures is effective and rapid in pain relief. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of unipedicular percutaneous vertebroplasty with polymethylmethacrylate bone cement in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Methods: 53 cases of fresh osteoporotic vertebra compression fractures were performed unipedicular percutaneous vertebroplasty with polymethylmethacrylate bone cement. Their clinical data were analyzed retrospectively. Results: The follow-up time for the 53 cases was 6 months. ①Of all the cases , Visual Analogue Scale scores since 72 hours(3.02±0.83vs6.89 ±1.41;P0.001) and 6months postoperation(1.32±0.471vs6.89± 1.41 ;P0.001)were significantly improved than those preoperatively; ② The heights of anterior[（24.3±1.42）mm vs(15.49±1.96)mm；P0.001] and intermediate vertebral body[(25.87±1.48) mm vs (17.49±1.88) mm；P0.001] since 72 hours were significantly improved than those preoperatively; The heights of anterior [(23.15±1.44)mm vs (15.49±1.96)mm；P0.001]and intermediate vertebral body[(24.58±1.08) mm vs (17.49±1.88) mm； P0.001]6months postoperation were significantly improved than those preoperatively; ③The angle of Cobb since 72 hours[ (12.98±1.47)°vs (24.85±2.47) °；P0.001] and 6months[(11.87±1.48) °vs (24.85± 2.47)°；P0.001] postoperation were significantly improved than those preoperatively. ④Properties correlation analysis between the insertion amount of bone cement and Visual Analogue Scale scores since 72 hours(r=-0.18;P=0.900)and 6months postoperation(r=-0.134；P=0.337);The heights of anterior vertebral body since 72 hours(r=0.25;P=0.875)and 6months postoperation(r=0.089;P=0.525); The heights of intermediate vertebral body since 72 hours(r=0.047;P=0.740)and 6months postoperation(r=0.043;P=0.740),and the angle of Cobb since 72 hours (r=-0.003;P=0.986) and 6months postoperation
