Clinical Observation and Experimental Study of Cervical Spondylosis of Vertebral Artery Type with Gexian Decoction Abstract Objective: To definite the clinical effect on the treatment of cervical spondylosis of vertebral artery type (CSA) with Gexian Decoction, and investigate the mechanism by clinical observation and experimental study, in order to provide a basis for clinical application and further study. Methods: 70 cases of CSA patients were randomly devided into 35 cases of the treatment group and 35 cases of the control group. The treatment group was treated with Gexian Decoction, a dose of medicinal herbs were decocted once a day. The control group was treated with Taiji Tongtian oral liquid, every 10ml was taken and 3 times a day after meals. During administered 2 weeks successively, the change of symptoms and physical signs with patients were observed before and after treatment. The experiment part was observed the improvement of hemorheology by the rats were infused with different dosages Gexian Decoction and Compound Salvia Tablets for two weeks. Results: (1) The clinical observation of two groups compared after treatment: the treatment group showed that 18 cases were clinical recovery, 10 cases had marked effect, 4 cases were effective, and 3 cases were without effect, the total cure rate was 91.4%. The control group showed that 8 cases were clinical recovery, 9 cases had marked effect, 11 cases were effective, and 7 cases were without effect, the total cure rate was 80%. Difference between two groups had marked statistical significance (P0.05). It was showed that the treatment of CSA with Gexian Decoction was better than Taiji Tongtian oral liquid. (2) The two groups were compared with each other after treatment, symptoms of vertigo headache, cervical-shoulder pain, and tinnitus were improved significantly (P0.05).
