T he study show s t hat w it h the backw ard succession of vegetation, the ator ed soi s suff er ed structur a degradation , w hich w as characterized by the sandif ication of surf ace ayer w ith re a tive y incr easing content of sand grains and decreasing content of c ay gr ains, the ow ering ag g reg ate stabi it y w ith decreasing w aterstab e agg reg ates and the deteriorating soi porosity w ith increasing bu k densit y and ow er ing ar ge pore content . For natura atored so i , the increasing bu k density and the decreasing ar ge pore content w ere more obvious, but fo r cu tivated one, the ow ering str uctura stabi ity and sandif ication of surf ace ayer w ere more seriou s. It is a so indicated that the decrease of soi org anic matter content cau sed by v egetation deter ioration w as the main interior factor causing the structura deg radation o f ator ed soi s .
