Pilot Pilot Research of Guide Signs System Based on GIS and Road-Topology Geographic Information System Name：Shirong Zou Supervisor：Associate Prof．Qingnian Zhang ABSTRAI：T Firstly,this paper shows the definition of guide sign system and its research contents and importance in the development of modem traffic．Secondly,it points out its functions in transportation system and its relationship to Intelligent Transportation System，Geographic Information System and Traveler Information SyStem-This paper also introduces the development and applications of the relevant research both at home and abroad，and introduces the algorithm foundations of the system construction in detail． According to the category syStem of the road sign，it has proposed three kinds of guide signs：connective sign，state sign and directional sign,the paper lays particular emphasis on studyjng the mathemmic models and tentatively realizing the auto—generate system of connective sign．The technical platform，the system frame and the lo舀eal relation of the data are designed based on the properties of connective sign．Besides，this paper focus on the Nodes-Arcs—Angles topological model， establishes the relative direction judging model of roads based on Qi algorithm，the methods to generate gnide signs according to the Nodes—Arcs topology,the way to confirm the lay position of signpost，and the method for updating the guide signs automatically．All of this models and algorithms have many similarities to other kinds of traffic signs，SO they very valuable reference to the latter researches。 The disposal of the guide signs data is one of the focal points of this paper．We illustrate the table structures and the flow of data disposing in detail．Making use of H the the Object Oriented technology,the GIS Component Object Mode technology and the RDBMS，we actualize the algorithms and the Guide Sign Manager System tentatively with many functions，such as displaying，querying，editing，updating，and so on．To slim up，the pilot
