ABSTRACTWith ABSTRACT With the increasingly fast urbanization，as one of important urban infrastructures，the drainage pipel ine network is confronted with a large number of newly—built and reconstructed projects．It’s especially important to program the pipe network of urban rainwater scientifica王1y and efficiently． Defining the rainwater catchments is a primary and essential step in programming and constructing urban storm sewer system，which step will directly decide the layout of the urban storm sewer system．Optimization of rainwater catchments makes planning and constructing the storm sewer system more efficiently． Having studied the domestic and foreign development of rainwater catchment in the urban storm sewer system planning and designing，analyzed the methods of building and evaluating the catchments，this thesis studied the auto compartmentalization of urban catchments and the urban storm sewer system connective analysis and runoff area computation model which supported the optimization of urban rainwater catchments．Aiming at those catchments not up to drainage standard，and according to city terrain、urban layout、 storm sewer layout，this thesis theorized the optimization method of urban rainwater catchments based on GIS，including adjusting catchment vertexes， decompounding catchment， aggregating catchments．Adjusting catchment vertexes is mainly used to optimization in rebuilding and continuation of old drainage system；deeompounding catchment algorithm decomposes the catchment to decrease the drainages’ burden；aggregating catchments algorithm aggregates the neighbored catchments to distribute the runoff and decrease the drainages’burden． The thesis implemented the optimization of urban catchments，and proved the method of urban catchments optimization through application instance． The conclusion indicated that utilizing of this method to optimize the urban rainwater catchments is feasible，and can improve the efficiency of rainwater pipe networks planning
