Abstract In the 21 century, a new generation of video monitoring system based on Streaming Media server becomes the new focus of the stage. In order to catch up with the development, we design a video monitoring system, which shows the characteristic of exploiting server to effectively compress the simulative data directly, delivering the video picture and the control signals with streaming format to the network connecting end. The users get the video and audio data by the client software or the Internet Explorer in real-time. In the paper, the object of research is the client subsystem of a monitoring system based on Internet explorer. At first this thesis introduces the history of the video monitoring system and the current situation, and the functions and the structure of the video monitoring system. It also presents two types of remote monitoring client software based on B/S and C/S architecture. Then it introduces the status situation in domestic and abroad, as well as the background subjects and content of the thesis, followed by a brief description of the main function of the monitoring client subsystem based on ActiveX component in the video monitoring system and the block diagram and detailed description of the key technology. Then comes the detailed design and implementation of the ActiveX component, and introduces the attribute and method of the control which can be achieved. The thesis then introduces the call use of the ActiveX component. At first, the two types of the call of the component in the IE browser, then the design and implementation of flexible call of the component in other software or container. I also design a test programmer, set up some application environment according to different calls of the component and the functions of the system, and a complete stability test.
