Institute ofGeotechnical Engineering, Hunan University ofTechnology, Zhuzhou 412008, China) Abs tract: One-dmi ensional loading-unload ing tests w ere carried out on Nann ing expansive soils respectively by means of consolidometer, and the stress-strain relationship w ere obtained in this paper. The results of the exper-i ment show that the prmi ary is instantaneous deformation; under same load ing rate, the deformation speed reaches the maxmi um and then the speed decreasesw ith tmi e quickly. Finally, som e of deformation cou ld not be restored still w hen it is unloaded. The plastic and rheologicalproperties aremore andmore obviouswhen themoisture content or stress is increased. The deform ation is composed of instantaneous elastic deformation, p lastic deformation and elastic hysteretic deformation. The form of the rheological components model of expansive soils w as exp lored, and the rheological parameters of this soilw as obtained.
