STUDY ON MRO SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT STRATEGY
FOR X FOODS COMPANY
ABSTRACT
MRO is the abbreviation of maintenance, repair and operation,
normally means the material and service which have no direct relation with
the products during production. Therefore, MRO supplier is those who
provide the products or service of this kind. For many years indirect
procurement especially MRO procurement has existed under the shadow of
raw material procurement with no attention. There are even no indirect
procurement departments for MRO purchasing in many companies today. Of
course, the characteristics by nature of MRO are also the root cause of its
unimportant position : Lacking of demand plan, thousands of types, different
levels of suppliers and low purchasing volume. For the companies that owns
MRO procurement team, the main focus from management is on lower cost
and timely delivery thus buyers’ daily work only stays inquiry and bargain

but neglect the management of suppliers. In recent years, with the rapid
increase of multi-national business investment more and more attention
began to focus on indirect and MRO procurement. Consolidate procurement
was taken by headquarter of multi-national company to replace the individual
procurement. By this trend, it is urgent to manage well on current and
potential suppliers. X Foods Company, which is the 2nd largest foods
company of the world, is set as the example of this dissertation for discussion
on some effective strategy on supplier management. At the very fir
