Tspatial T spatial expansion．The root of the urban traffic is the contradiction between the clustering effect and limited urban space．The dissertation considers that simple spatial expansion，such as suburbanization，urban sprawl，would cause traffic question by the increase in long-distance commuters．However,traffic question mitigation should be achieved by spatial expansion，such as complex polycentric form，as a result of the interaction between agglomeration and dispersion．It is impossible not to crowd in the high-concentration space，agglomeration and congestion as unity of opposites．There is insufficient transport use and a larger waste in case of no congestion．It should be feasible to reduce congestion to an affordable extent and be conducive to orderly sustainable urban development by taking full advantage of a variety of methods． Using the analytical methods of comparison and demonstration，this dissertation focuses on the interaction mechanism and the evolution laws of urban transport and urban spatial expansion．It finds that there exists the historically corresponding relationship between urban transport and urban spatial expansion．It also finds that the processes of their evolution are characterized by different stages，but the interaction between them is a continuous process．The interaction process of urban transport and urban spatial expansion can reach the condition of dynamic equilibrium． The analytic framework of the interaction mechanism of urban transport and urban spatial expansion is constructed．Some conclusions are as follows： accessibility is the key factor connecting urban transport with urban spatial expansion．The improvement of accessibility reduces the transport cost which affects the behavior of location choice of residents and firms and in turn affects the expansion mode，scale and distribution of urbatl space．At the same time，the changes ——_一一—————1孵———————_可zz霭of ——_一一—————1孵———————_可zz霭 of urban spatial scale and distribution have a
