Evidentiality categories and functions have long been the focus of linguistic study since the early 20th century when Boas and Sapir came up with the notion. Among researchers there have been different opinions on its definition, terminology, and its relationship with other grammatical categories. Evidentiality is proved a universal phenomenon of human languages, though different languages have different coding systems for it. It is necessary to clarify the relationship between evidentiality and other grammatical categories, such as its relationship with mood, especially with modality. Both mood and modality are two grammatical categories conveying attitudes based on information sources which are both objective and subjective. One of the main concerns of evidentiality study is the credibility of information sources. This suggests a multi-lateral interaction, which indicates the non-linearity of human language. But only one perspective has been adopted in most of the existing linguistic researches on evidentiality. Adopting a non-linear approach, this paper takes Daur as an example to study how evidentiality, mood and modality are multi- laterally intertwined.
