local local tourism development，adjust the local industrial structure and lead the local economic development．Balancing and coordinating the relation between ‘‘protection’’and‘‘development’’has become an inevitable issue in the conservation of vernacular architecture． Cuandixia Village locates in the deep mountain area in the northwest of Zhaitang town in Mentougou district west part of Beij ing． More than seventy mountain courtyards of Ming and Qing dynasty ·---conserved relatively complete located in Cuandixia Village which was named as the‘‘Famous Historical and Cultural Village’’by State Bureau of Cultural Relics and Ministry of Construction in 2003．Cuandixia is the first only “Famous Historical and Cultural Villagein Beijing，and was named as the sixth State—level key units of cultural relics protection by the State Council．Cuandixia is typical in the research of vernacular architecture． Research on Cuandixia currently focused on town planning，history, architecture analysis，and cultural heritage protection，tourism development and SO on，while the research on the cultural connotation of vernacular architecture in Cuandixia is relatively scarce．Since the lack of cultural connotation research and the indifference of local villagers to protect architecture heritage，the conservation and development of architecture heritage in Cuandixia cannot be coordinated．So the author put forward an original idea in heritage protection--culture value as the core concept in heritage protection，in order to offer advice and suggestions for the development of Cuandixia． The preface introduced the significance of the topic，and outlined the significance of researching cultural connotation in theory and reality two aspects， and then the thesis summed up the current research situation of Cuandixia in five five aspects．The thesis also introduced the structure and the research approach． The first chapter introduced the physical geography overview and historical and cultural background．On t
