W e study the regulations about damping in Chinese Seism ic Code. By using the concrete and steel structures as examp les, w e discuss the effect of equ ivalent damp ing ratio in pushovermethod and capacity-demand- diagram m ethod and the effect of damping ratio in elastic and elasto-plastic dynam ic tmi e history method. W e point out the problems in extend ing the Rayleigh damping to elasto-plastic dynam ic tmi e history method.
