It is the complex interaction makes prescription so effective. Every medicinal substance has its strengths and its shortcomings. An effective prescription is one in which the substances are carefully balanced To accentuate the strengths To reduce the side-effects. (副反应/作用) Components of a prescription  Organizing principle : hierarchy (配伍).  Commonly, a prescription includes four ranks :  JUN: chief ingredients, focusing on chief diseases or syndromes, indispensable part.  CHEN: to help monarch treating chief diseases and syndromes.  ZUO: concentrating on secondary diseases/syndromes, or to reduce venenous effects coming from king or minister.  SHI : to point effective ingredients to the sick location. “君臣佐使”的翻译形式 JUN :monarch, king, principal or chief CHEN :minister, adjutant, associate or deputy ZUO :assistant or adjutant Shi : guide, messenger, conductant or envoy But it would be quite unusual for a prescription to include all the various types of minister, assistant, and guide ingredients. Many of them consist of only a monarch- ingredient and one o
