The Brazilian version of SARA and the Japanese version of SARA were shown to be reliable and useful for the assessment of cerebellar ataxia on a daily basis. The aim of the present study was to translate and validate SARA into Chinese. Method SARA was translated into Chinese, and the Chinese version was summarized, modified and back translated. Then the back-translation was modified by one of the SARA authors. According to the author’s suggestion, the Chinese version of SARA was revised. Finally, the reliability and validity of the revised Chinese version of SARA were evaluated. All patients were evaluated by two different neurologists with the Chinese version of SARA. The patients were assessed by one of the evaluators with International Cooperative Ataxia Rating Scale ( ICARS) in the next 24 hours. A total of 39 degeneration cerebellar ataxia patients were included in the study. And the statistical analyses were performed using SPSS for Windows (version 17.0.0; SPSS Inc., USA). Results The Cronbachs alpha coefficient of the Chinese version of SARA was 0.78, illustrating that the internal consistency of the Chinese version of SARA was good. The correlation coefficient of the Chinese version of SARA scores between the two evaluators was 0.86, illustrating that the inter-rater reliability of Chinese version of SARA was good.
