Acknowledgments
Three years fly quickly. My master degree study comes to an end. I am grateful to all the
people who have helped me in my thesis writing.
Firstly, I am grateful to my supervisor Professor Liu Yu for her patient guidance during
my thesis writing. When I encounter problems, she always gives me constructive suggestions.
She is always ready to help me in the three years. Her personality and knowledge impress me
a lot.
Secondly, I would also like to express my gratitude to all other professors at Chang’an
Universtiy who have helped during these three years, including Professor Xu Yu Chen,
Professor Yang Dangling, Professor Yan Xuan, and Professor Wang Hongxiao, Professor Liu
Shuhui.

Abstract
The English Syllabus Standard for Vocational School was issued by the Ministry of
Education of China in 2009, which replaced the 2000 version. With the revising of new
syllabus, various textbooks published by different publishers have come into the market. The
students’ Vocational English Textbook (basic module) published by Foreign Language
Teaching and Research Press was evaluated in this thesis.
The evaluation theory of Theo Van Els was adopted. And the evaluation was conducted
from two perspectives: the textbooks were evaluated with reference to 2009 Syllabus and the
results of questionnaires from students and teachers. At first, the textbooks were evaluate
