The results show that social support for elderly women is less than that for elderly men and that there are gaps between the needs of elderly women and the conditions of social support. Especially elderly womens economic situations are not better. Therefore the exchange between elderly womens social participation and informal social support is hidden under the guise of gender based divisions of labor in the predomi- nately patriarchal society, in which elderly womens contributions are not valued and their needs of social support become silent.
