General idea of the design
The main task for the teacher in this lesson is to instruct the students to understand the passage and learn how to solve the problem. Try to help others to think of the solutions.
Learning objectives
By the end of the class, students are able to
*find the key words and sentences to the questions.
*retell the story by using their own words.
*write down their friends’ problems and the possible solution.
3. Emphases and difficulties
Emphases: Instruct the students to understand the passage.
Difficulties: retell the stories by using their own words.
Teaching procedures
Warm-up:
show a video, review the words and lead in the story.
Pre-reading:
read three sentences and guess what the writer talks about in the passage.
Students these days often have a lot of worries. Sometimes they have problems with their schoolwork, and sometimes with their friends. What can they do about this?
Fast reading:
Task 1 read the whole passage and get the main idea. Ask the students to pay attention to the key words. Worries, problems, What can they do about this?
Detailed reaing:
Task 2 ask the students to read the paragraph one by one.
Para1 Answer the following questions and use the mind map to retell the story.
What is the worst thing to do if you have a problem?
What’s Laura Mill’s opinion about how to deal with problem?
Para 2 Answer the following questions and use the mind map to retell the story.
What did Laura lose?
Why didn’t Laura want to tell her parents?
What did she learn from it?
Para 3 ask the students to finish the information card.
Post-reading retell the story
