Be sure the device is off before connecting cables. Plug cables into appropriate sockets at top end of device. One socket is marked A for atrium; the other V for ventricle. Connect leads/heartwires to appropriate cable. Match positive (+) and negative (–) leads to positive (+) and negative (–) sockets or clips for the atrium and ventricle. To disconnect the cables, press the connector release button on cable and pull gently from socket. Temporary pacing leads or heartwires plug directly into four smaller sockets (two for the atrium; two for the ventricle) at top end of device. No locking mechanism. Replace old battery when low battery indicator appears during device operation. Device operates adequately for about 24 hours after low battery indicator appears. Use fresh 9V alkaline or lithium battery (Eveready 522, Ultralife U9VL, or equivalent). Battery works with polarity reversed. Medtronic recommends disconnecting device from patient before replacing the battery. Pacing is maintained for 15 seconds if device is on while replacing battery. New batteries will last about 9 days (7 days guaranteed) at 100% pacing, DDD, 70 ppm, and 10 mA in both the atrium and the ventricle. To turn device on, press ON key.
