Chapter One Synthetic vs. Analytic
Ⅰ.Objectives
Students are expected to
have an understanding of the definitions synthetic and analytic languages and embodiments of those features in Chinese and English languages;
Have an understanding of differences between English and Chinese in inflection, word order, figure of speech and phonology, and illustrate them in cases;
Have knowledge of the general differences between the languages.

Special difficulties: how to analyze Chinese grammar since the framework of subject-predicate-object is not applicable to Chinese language?

The two funny expressions are reflections of Chinglish, or what we say in a Chinese thought. As we want to teach foreign people Chinese, we’d speak idiomatic and authentic English.
