Learn some new words and phrases ,like flashlight, match, beat, against, asleep, fallen, apart, fall asleep, die down, in a mess, clean up.
a. Learn some useful sentences’ expressions.
1)Black clouds were making the sky very dark.
2)With no light outside, it felt like midnight.
3) It was hard to have fun with a serious storm happening outside.
4) Although the storm broke many things apart, it brought families and neighbors closer together.
c. The past continuous tense, the structure “was/were + Ving 。
2. Ability aims
Using the past continuous tense to talk about the past continuous events or story.

Step1 Presentation:
Leading-in
a. Guess the main idea of the passage by reading the title and the picture.
b. The teacher shows some pictures and leads students to say it out the situation before the rainstorm/during the storm/after the storm.)
Step2 Practice

Read quickly and match the main idea of each paragraph.

2. Careful Reading
a. Read para 12 and fill in the blanks
b. Read para3 and choose the right answer.
c. Read para4 and answer two questions.
Step3. Consolidation
1. Retell the passage according to the mind map or the questions.
The questions are as follow
(1) What was the weather like?
(2)What were the people doing before the rainstorm?
(3) What were Ben and his family doing during the rainstorm?
