The On Liberty is one of the main representative of him. In this treatise, he discussed the relationship between individual and society, the interaction between individual freedom and social civilization by demonstrating the main idea of freedom such as the peoples thoughts, discussion and individuality. Thereby, it made us have a clear understanding of the meaning of individual freedom and restrictions .In Mill’s free thought theory system, the freedom of thought and discussion is the need of individual freedom, and the freedom of individuality is the condition of inspiring human creativity, the source of the development of a mans wit, and is also one of the factors to promote social progress and human well-being. However, throughout his book, Mill’s wonderful discussion of individual freedom fascinated me profoundly. Therefore, the interpretation and study of the Mill’s individual freedom’s connotation and value had become the topic of my graduation thesis certainly.
