Dep art ment of Ep idemiolog , M edical School of Xian Jiaotong Universit , X ian, 710061 Abstract: Object ve: To study the association of genetic polymorphism of glutathione S- transferase ( GSTM1, GSTT 1, GST P1) and their susceptibility to primary liver cancerMethods: The results from 18 epidemiological studies on the relationshipbe tween glutathione S- transferase genetic polymorphism and susceptibility to primary liver cancer from 1994 to 2004 were analyzed synthetically by Meta- analysisResults: A total of 1407 cases and 2 044 controls from 18 studies was includedThe results showed a relationship between GSTM1null genotype and susceptibility to primary liver cancer, the pooled odds ratio (O ) values was 140 ( 95%CI: 122- 162) ; the relationship also was found in the study on at least one null genotype in GSTM1 and GSTT 1 OR = 205 ( 95%CI: 114- 367) The null genotype of GSTT 1 OR = 113 (95% CI: 077- 165) and the mutated genotype of GST P1 OR = 068 (95%CI: 047- 099) did not show a statistic relationship with susceptibility to primary liver cancer.
