Oral Interpreting
Topic 1
Topic: Speeches on Special Occasions (Introduction). This is mainly an orientation of the course and skill training session.
Purpose:
The students will be informed about the purpose and requirement of the course. They will concentrate on the skill training as warming up for the course including memory training, note taking, reproduction etc.
Objectives: Students will be able to
Comprehend – have a good comprehension of the talks delivered.
Take notes – note down the important information heard from the talk for either reproduction or interpretation.
Reproduce – retell what they hear from the talks and express it fluently and accurately.

Activities and Procedures:
Warming-up: Listen to International Mother Language Day – Message from H.E. Mr. Jan Kavan, President of the Fifty-seventh Session of the United Nations General Assembly, 21 February 2003 (537 words). The students are required to take notes during the process so that they will be able to reproduce it afterwards.
Individual work: The students will record their own reproduction with the help of their notes.
Presentation: Several students will be asked to do the presentation in class.
Comment: The students will comment on the work of the presenters.
Listening: Listen to the Christmas message by President Bush to the American people.
Discussion: Discuss the main points mentioned in the Christmas message in pairs.
Oral interpreting: The students will be interpreting
