From comparison of its use in spoken and written languages, it is found that “Zhege(这个)” is much more frequently used in spoken style. And the usage of discourse marker of “Zhege(这个)” is just a product of semantic reduction. In spoken language, as a discourse marker, its function is proved to trigger and extend a turn.
