Education becomes a standardized production plant, where students are trained to tools. Peoples life consciousness and creativity are eliminated and people have been alienated. Education has lost its independence and firmness in order to cater to the fickle market. Education becomes the tool of economy and the cheap maid of utilitarian. Education lost his dignity, so people that education cultivates will also lose dignity. Our education reality is or has been deviating from the true goal of education. Clarifying the essence of education is urgently needed. The true education should get its essence at first as jaspers said, who is a famous psychologist, philosopher and educator of Germany .Education is the education of the peoples soul. Education is not a conglomeration of rational knowledge and understanding. Education is a kind of activity about interpersonal communication of Soul and body. Education is the source and foundation which guides the soul awakening through all the existing cultures around the world. The insights of the great mind is still a valuable wealth which can help us to explore the essence of education nowadays. This paper mainly discusses Jaspers’ conception of the essence of education. Firstly this paper explores the context of Jaspers’ conception of the essence of education. Secondly this paper states the basic proposition of Jaspers’ conception of the essence of education. Thirdly this paper discusses the enlightenment of Jaspers’ conception of the essence of education to the current Chinese education. Lastly this paper reflects and makes an objective evaluation of Jaspers’ conception of the essence of education.
