II II Abstract It is well-known that China has already become the biggest producer of iron and steel in the whole world, however, Chinese iron steel industry has a long way to go when compared with several advanced countries such as Japan, Korea, USA and some Europe countries. So, it is meaningful to find an efficient way to develop Chinese iron steel industry. With the progress of human society and development of world economy, consumption of production increased, tensions caused by resources shortage became more and more serious. World economy calls for an evolution of the increasing mode, which will be well influenced by technological progress. Chinese iron steel industry needs to depend on technological progress to find a new way to achieve a kind of continuable growth. This paper is a study on the relationship between technological progress and the development of Chinese iron steel industry, and it brings out an attempt to calculate contribution rate of technological progress of Chinese iron steel industry. This paper is composed by several sections. Firstly, it depicts the development of Chinese iron steel industry, and points out some serious problems, such as low level of producing arts and crafts, low centralizing state and high resource consumption, which have affinities with technological progress. After that, this paper review history of technological progress in Chinese iron steel industry, which also explains advantages brought by technological progress on output increasing and consumption decreasing. At the same time，this paper studies theories on technological progress, and then carries out a demonstration on functions caused by technological progress in Chinese iron steel industry according to specific times.
