RemarkstothePressontheReleaseoftheXXCountryReportsonHumanRightsPractices Remarks HillaryRodhamClinton SecretaryofState Washington,DC April8,XX SECRETARYCLINTON:Goodmorning,everyone.I’mheretodaytopresentthe35thannualreporttoCongressonthestateofhumanrightsaroundtheworld.Thestruggleforhumanrightsbeginsbytellingthetruthoverandoveragain.Andthisreportrepresentsayearofsustainedtruth-tellingbyoneofthelargestorganizationsdocumentinghumanrightsconditionsintheworld,theUnitedStatesStateDepartment. IwanttothankAssistantSecretaryMikePosnerandtheBureauofDemocracy,HumanRights,andLabor,andourhundredsofcolleaguesandembassiesaroundtheworldforworkingsohardtomakethisreportanhonestcompendiumofglobalhumanrightsissues.Ialsowanttothankthemanypeoplearoundtheworldwhomonitorandfightforhumanrightsintheirownsocieties,andfromwhoseinformationandrecommendationswegreatlybenefit. Inrecentmonths,wehavebeenparticularlyinspiredbythecourageanddeterminationoftheactivistsintheMiddleEastandNorthAfricaandinotherrepressivesocietieswhohavedemandedpeacefuldemocraticchangeandrespectfortheiruniversalhumanrights.TheUnitedStateswillstandwiththosewhoseektoadvancethecausesofdemocracyandhumanrightswherevertheymaylive,andwewillstandwiththosewhoexercisetheirfundamentalfreedomsofexpressionandassemblyinapeacefulway,whetherinperson,inprint,orinpixelsontheinternet.Thisreportusuallygeneratesagreatdealofinterestamongjournalists,lawmakers,nongovernmentalorganizations,andofcourse,othergovernments,andIhopeitwillagainthisyear. Aspartofourmissiontoupdatestatecraftforthe21stcentury,todayI’malsopleasedtoannouncethelaunchofournewwebsite,.Thissitewillofferone-stopshoppingforinformationaboutglobalhumanrightsfromacrosstheUnitedStatesGovernment.Itwillpulltogetherreports,statements,andcurrentupdatesfromaroundtheworld.Itwillbesearchableanditwillbesafe.Youwon’tneedtoregistertouseit.Wehopethiswillmakeiteasierforcitizens,scholars,NGOs,andinternationalorganizationstofindtheinformationtheyneed
