Prof. Li Yueyan Abstract Modulus, as its standardization, quantification and derivability, has been used in architecture design for a long time. It can play an active role that controlling scale, harmonizing proportion and achieving standardization of construction. In urban design, the space modulus method has been used to control the scale of land, reinforce the space order in an early age. China is currently under the rapid urbanization, on account of development, there are great changes in urban space, which seems to be expansion of the urban land on one hand and reconstruction for the old inner city on the other hand. While promoting the city’s development, these constructions also brought quite a lot of problems such as wasting of land, losing control of the scale, reducing the environmental quality and so on. Considering such situation, it has become a quite significative task to control the land division and use the space efficiently under the space modulus method. Under the main research object urban space modulus, this paper tried to describe the modulus constitution system of the architecture space, block space and urban space firstly. Secondly it focused on the research of typical urban space modulus in ancient and modern cities. Thirdly, on base of all the modulus been analyzed, the paper compared them and gathered up several factors affecting the urban space modulus， together with a preliminary conclusion of the space modulus method. Finally, combining with the use of space modulus method in the project of the CBD design of the New Riverfront District in Zhang Ye City, the paper got a feedback to the research with the practical use.
