ABSTRACTHydrotalcite—based ABSTRACT Hydrotalcite—based mixed oxides were synthesized and characterized．Their catalytic activities for soot combustion were also investigated in this paper． Hydrotalcite-type precursors were prepared by eoprecipitation method and series of mixed oxides were obtained by the the calcination of hydrotalcite-type compounds at different temperatures．The products were characterized by XRD，BET,FT-IR and TG-DTA measurements．TG—DTA was also used to study the catalytic activities of mixed oxides in soot combustion．XRD results demonstrated that the precursors had the characteristic of hydrotalcite．·Afar the calcination at higher temperatures，the crystalline Mg(A1)O Was found in all hydrotalcite·based mixed oxides．The mixed oxides derived from hydrotalcite compounds showed weak activity in catalytic SOOt combustion and the activity could be improved markedly by the integration of Cu cations．Tl舱oxygen spillover mechanism WaS proposed for mixed oxides without the addition of Cu cations， whereas the mixed oxides containing Cu cations may promote catalytic soot combustion by the redox mechanism． Noble metal supported hydrotalcite·type mixed oxides were prepared by wet impregnation，of mixed oxide supports obtainted from hydrotaleite precursors．XRD，BET, TG-DTA,FT-IR and MS were used to study the properties of precursors and prepared catalysts．Under loose contact between soot and catalysts，soot combustion activities of hydrotalcite··based mixed oxides and noble metal supported on hydrotalcite—baSed mixed oxides were investigated under a variety ofreaetion atmospheres．XRD results showed that noble metal supported hydrotalcite-based mixed oxide showed no peaks other than those attributed to the Mg(AI)O phase，which meaned the hi曲dispersion of noble metal． Hydrotaleite—type mixed oxides displayed low activity in the atmosphere of 02 alone or NO+02．The addition of noble metal didn t improve the catalytic activity apparently in the presence of 02．However,in t
