燕山大学文学硕士学位论文Abstract 燕山大学文学硕士学位论文 Abstract In view of the special importance of country songs in American culture， this rcse戤ch focuses on theme coding and statistic analysis of country song lyrics from 1960 to 2005．Based on the relationship between language and culture，it attempts to give an insightful view ofbow traditional Araerican values arc reflected in country song驷its and bow this reflection has changed throughout time．And based on social identity theory,it attempts to fmd out the social characteristics of country song audiences and lead the readers to a better llllderstunding ofAmerican social classes． The study cboOSeS 127 song lyrics listed in Billboard in 1O．80 agreement is assured between the two coders．Excel and SPSS age appfied to carry out the statistic analysis．Besides，30 copies of questionnaire answered by native American listeners re are collected to investigate the social identity rehted tO country music．The following conclusions are drawn： 1．Sixtheme categories embodytraditionalAmericanvalue 2．During the 46 years from 1960 to 2005，the embodiment of traditional American values in country songs has gone through falls and rises．To he more specific，there was a sharp drop，a slight rise which was then followed by a shaw rise again． 3．There ale two reasons t0 explain the successful spreading of country music to the mainstream of the American society．One is the unique 印iri【embedded in country songs；the other is the unique structure of Americ托SOCial classes． 4．Country songs appeal to the mass with two striking characteristics．One is its genuineness and the fact that it tells stories and feelings of comnlon people．The other is its unique regional and national features and its patriotic complex． 5．Country songs are frequently employed in political elections by both Abstractpolitical Abstract political panics as a channel to get connected to the mass，revealing certain charaeteristies about the strIlcture ofAmerican social classes． Key words：countr
