Section B(1 period): 4th periods: Practice of the reading skill (reading for the main idea in a paragraph); Teacher checks on Studens’ home reading by asking questions based on the passage; Teacher explains some difficult sentences. 3.Teaching Procedures: 3.1 Pre-reading Activities Step 1. Greetings Greet the whole class warmly. Step 2. Lead-in and preparation for reading Show some pictures and let them talk to each other about the following questions: 1. How time is treated in China? What is the difference with that in the USA? 2. What is culture shock? 3. How do Americans view time? Step 3. Fast reading Ask the Students to read the passage as quickly as they can and then answer the questions on the screen. Let them get the main idea of each paragraph and make clear about the text structure. Text structure: ( structured writing ) The passage can be divided into 3 parts. Part I (para1) Americans save time carefully. Part II (paras 2-7) Americans’ attitude towards time and how they try to save time in daily life and in business. Part III(para 8) It is taken as a sign of skillfulness or being competent to solve a problem or fulfill a job successfully with speed in the US. Purpose: Improve the students’ reading and
